The Liz Chrystie Native Plant Habitat was established in 1973; it is the first community garden in New York City, and one of the first in the country.  In 1985 a native plant collection was started under the shade of our well known Dawn Redwood tree.  May is an excellent time to visit and see the early blooming wildflowers; Virginia bluebells, Dutchman's breeches, both the large and small-flowered merrybells, wake robin, mayapples, Carolina allspice and pinxter azaleas, among others.
